Chuck Schumer Tries Spreading “Blatant Lies” About Trump, Gets Hit With Fact-Check

Elon Musk’s Community Notes on X came to the rescue once again after Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-CA) made a false claim about President Donald Trump on the social media platform.  Schumer was criticizing the president’s move to pause federal funding as the administration seeks to thwart progressive ideology within the federal government.

Schumer took to X to accuse the Trump administration of threatening funding toward law enforcement, which would ostensibly oppose a threat to public safety.  The California Democrat wrote, “Funding for law enforcement is now in danger thanks to Donald Trump.”  However, the fact-checking feature on X, Community Notes, stepped in to set the record straight.

The reader-added context stated, “EO clearly states:  “This order does not apply to military personnel of the armed forces or to positions related to immigration enforcement, national security, or public safety.” The popular conservative commentator Spitfire shared a screenshot of the post, writing, “I love that Democrats are getting called out on their blatant lies on X. Don’t stop fighting back against their disinformation!”

The incident sparked a reaction from conservatives on X.  One person wrote, “The dems think they can keep saying the same lies over and over, and people are going to believe it. It hasn’t worked, and it will never.”  Another user celebrated Community Notes, posting, “Thank God! Community Notes for the win!”  Similarly, the popular commentator American Paw Paw, wrote, “The dems lies are up for true scrutiny thanks to .”

The Senate Minority Leader further criticized Trump’s funding freeze in remarks made at a news conference on Wednesday, noting that “people are aroused” by the president’s move.  Schumer claimed the “roots of Democracy” are “deep” and that local and state leadership would voice the interests of average Americans directly to President Trump.

A reporter asked Schumer, “You talk about these different organizations and people in New York reaching out to you, and you’ve encouraged them to obviously keep up this effort and to possibly contact the president in any way, shape, or form. But do you realistically think that the president is going to listen to many of these people in upstate New York who are struggling?”

He replied, “The roots of democracy are deep. And what we’re saying is, go to your local official, your local congressman, your local senator, and have them get to the president,” the New York Democrat replied. “But the roots of democracy are deep.”  Schumer continued, “People are aroused. I haven’t seen people so aroused in a very, very long time in terms of going, trying to get this done.” He went on to say, “So yes, I think democracy will have an effect. And we are going to keep at it. We’re going to keep at it legally. We’re going to keep at it legislatively.  But we’re also going to keep at it in terms of the grassroots.”

Following President Trump’s decisive victory in the 2024 election, The American Tribune reported on calls from the Teamsters International President Sean O’Brien urging Democratic leaders such as Schumer and Nancy Pelosi to step aside.  Trump received historic support from union voters, a historically blue demographic.
