Recently, a Connecticut state official was arrested for reportedly changing people’s voter registration cards to indicate that they were Democrats during an event in September. Arlanda Brantley, 57, an employee working for the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, turned herself into authorities.
According to reports, Brantley has been charged with five counts of primary or enrollment violations. Authorities claim the arrest resulted from an investigation started in October after the detectives received a fraud complaint claiming voter registration cards had been altered at a September national voting event at the Western Connecticut Mental Health Network.
The subsequent investigation determined that Brantley intentionally changed multiple voter registration cards to from the options “No” or “Republican” to “Democrat” without the consent of the registrants. Reports indicate that Brantley then submitted the voter registration cards to the Registrar of Voters Office clerk in Torrington.
The voter registration fraud has sparked outrage from state leaders in Connecticut. State Rep. Joe Canino (R) reacted to the news, voicing his “outrage” with Brantley’s conduct. “I am outraged to hear that a state employee was knowingly fabricating voter registration information without the consent of our registrants. What was meant to be a non-partisan, state-led, voter registration event, has now been tainted by Ms. Brantley’s illegal actions, which could have tainted the sanctity of Torrington elections,” he said.
Canino continued, “There is no room for election fraud in Connecticut. Whether it’s this incident in Torrington, or down in Bridgeport where individuals were stuffing ballots into a drop box during the eleventh hour before an election, the bottom line is that voter fraud is happening in Connecticut. As the voice of Torrington, I will continue to fight for our residents who deserve honesty and transparency in our elections and accountability for these shameful actions.”
The state Republican maintained that election integrity will continue to be prioritized moving forward. “Through increased enforcement of election related crimes, voter identification requirements, chain of custody requirements, and other proposals related to election security, my colleagues and I are committed to fixing gaps in our election laws that allow these incidents to take place,” he said.
Krystin DeLucia, communications and legislative program manager at the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, told Blaze News that DeLucia has been placed on administrative leave following her arrest. “Acting independently and without additional departmental authorization, an employee is alleged to have altered voter registration forms — a behavior the Department does not tolerate. The laws governing our elections must be adhered to without exception,” she told the outlet.
Conservative activist Scott Pressler reacted to the news on X, raising critical questions after Brantley’s arrest. “Do democrats still believe that election & voter fraud don’t exist? How many other healthcare workers are potentially taking advantage of the infirmed for political reasons?” he asked. “This story underscores the importance of having diligent & trustworthy clerks (so, I encourage voters to apply for jobs by searching for “election” in your states @ indeed dot com) Please check your voter registration status often to ensure you’re registered at your current address & w/ the correct political party.”
