Jonathan Campos, an American Airlines pilot, was among the 67 victims who died in a tragic January 29 collision between flight 5342 and a U.S. military helicopter. His uncle, John Lane, recalled a cheerful 10-minute phone conversation with Jonathan before the crash, during which Jonathan expressed excitement about an upcoming family cruise. A dreamer who worked hard to fly larger planes, Jonathan was remembered fondly as a “good kid” who had done well in life. The crash, near Washington D.C., involved 64 passengers and four crew members on the American Airlines flight, and three crew members in the helicopter. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident. Jonathan’s loss has left his family heartbroken but proud of his achievements.
