At the terrible time of his death, he was giving surf lessons.
Acting Ocean Safety Chief Kurt Lager said in a statement, “Tamayo Perry was a lifeguard loved by all, well-known on the North Shore, and a professional surfer known all over the world.”
Where did Tamayo pass away?
Tamayo had been surfing off of Goat Island, which is also called Mokuauia and is in Hawaii. It is near Laie, which is 32 miles north of Honolulu.
Officials told the Star-Advertiser that he was found at 1:00 p.m. and that lifeguards took him to shore on a jet ski.
